"For the greater glory of God and salvation of man."--Íñigo López de Loyola
I am undertaking a journey to Middle Earth. (See HERE for a further explanation) Here is my status report:
–July 29, 2019 Started The Fellowship of the Ring.
–August 6: Finished FotR and started The Two Towers
—August 25: Finished TTT and started The Return of the King
—September 2: Finished The Return of the King I’m going to take a book or two in between before I move on to the Silmarillion.
—September 18: Started reading The Silmarillion (for about the fourth time…)
—September 28: Listened to BBC abridged radio play of The Hobbit
–October 16. Still plodding through The Silmarillion. This is hard, hard reading. I am listening to podcast commentaries whenever I find them to help me along.
–October 18. I give up. At least for now. I may return to this book in audio form. The issue is that it reads like a history book. Christopher Tolkein (the author’s son) has published three individual novels based on three stories major episodes from the Silmarillion. I think I will read those instead. I tried. I really tried.
