NaPoWriMo #10: A Book Spine Poem

Today’s prompt is fun. I randomly selected several books from my library, and using the titles, or annotated variations of them, I created this poem. There is no rhyme or reason to the rhyme scheme (pun not intended). See if you can pick out the titles.

A Field Guide to California

A troupe of women artists
sailing across a wine dark sea
drift ashore a land of sagebrush and cappuccinos
to find their creative realities.
They breathe its miraculous air
and in a wild mind they become poemcrazy.
And not wasting time in games of desert solitaire
they discover that life is a verb
by writing down the bones
in pursuit of the practice of poetry.

  1. Ha! Got one of the titles I suspect: “Desert Solitaire’. I only snagged that one because it is one of my favorite books. Cool challenge BTW….very interesting.

  2. Love this! ‘poemcrazy’ is in mine, too! LOVE that book!

  3. I love the idea that life is a verb – a doing word as we were taught in primary school. :
