Today’s Daily Post prompt: Red Pill, Blue Pill
If you could get all the nutrition you needed in a day with a pill — no worrying about what to eat, no food preparation — would you do it?
I cook to relax. Yes, I know that is strange. And I am not saying that I am a good cook. I am a competent one at best. However, I like to improvise. Just as a writer plays with words, and an actor devises a scene, I like to get loose in the kitchen and create with vegetables, herbs, meats and cheeses, sweet butter — oh yes, let’s not forget the chocolate.
I like to think about what ingredients will work well together. I design dishes in my head before I start cooking. For example, today I worked out this meal: braised pork tenderloin in balsamic vinegar infused with juniper berries, served with mashed turnips and parsnips and an apple and onion chutney. I am preparing these right now as I write this. I have no idea if this meal is going to turn out. Failure is part of the creative process.
But I am a writer, an artist — a creative person. And this is what we do.
Postscript: Oh, yeah…..that’s so good…..
